Christian Montessori School of Ann Arbor
Fall Artisan Fair
Christian Montessori School of Ann Arbor (CMSAA) will hold a celebration of the creative spirit by bringing a hands-on artisan fair and family festival to the greater Ann Arbor community Friday evening November 7, and all day Saturday, November 8.
The CMSAA Fall Artisan Fair will feature the works of a wide variety of local and nationally known artists and will include free, hands-on workshops for both adults and children to get in touch with their own creativity.  A portion of all art sales will benefit CMSAA, but the Fair is primarily an opportunity for the larger community to come together and celebrate its creative spirit.
The accompanying Family Festival will offer story-telling and multi- faceted opportunities for creative expression for the young and the young at heart.
“Michigan has a real need for some grassroots efforts to promote creativity and innovation,” says Erin Milligan, CMSAA Head of School.  “These are true Montessori principles and we want the broader community, as well as our students, to enjoy experiencing them.”
The Artisan Fair will be held in a Jackson Road warehouse that the school recently acquired.  Originally purchased with the intention of accommodating plans for the school’s expansion, Milligan envisions the warehouse facility and its adjoining nature preserves as a means to serve an even larger youth community in Southeastern Michigan.
The Artisan Fair marks a community ground-breaking of sorts for the former plumbing supply warehouse space.  Families at the school have been joined by students from Eastern Michigan Art School as other community members to help clean out and prepare the facility for this event.  But the larger project of sketching out the details of what this innovation and creativity center might include, has just begun.
“We’re hoping that opening our doors to the community will be the beginning of new partnerships,” says Milligan.  “Both the school and the warehouse project are in need of financing, and at the same time we have a lot to offer the community at large.  We’re excited about the possibilities we see,” she says, “both for the larger community and for our own development.  And what better way to launch a grassroots innovation and entrepreneurialism project than by inviting the public to come together to share their own creativity?”
Please join us on Friday, November 7 from 6-9pm and Saturday November 8th from 9am-3pm.
