Music
Music education and appreciation is integrated into the Montessori curriculum from our Young Children’s Community through Upper Elementary.
Our Montessori trained Music and Peace Education teacher joins each Children’s House classroom for one morning a week, and each Elementary classroom for one afternoon a week.
During her time in each classroom, she gives individual and small group lessons as well as incorporating large group activities. New materials are presented and made available for students to choose from throughout the week’s work time.
Students in Children’s House are introduced to the Montessori bells with an emphasis on learning pitch and tone and working with simple compositions. Students are also introduced to a wide variety of instruments throughout the year.
Elementary students work with recorders and a group of rotating instruments. Composer studies commence at this level, as well, as the lessons expand to include an understanding and appreciation of classical and other types of music.
